Artist story and creative journey
’m Amelia Hainaut, a Colleyville artist and the founder of Studio AH. Over the past year, I’ve developed a practice creating geometric acrylic portraits of women, children, and companion animals. My engineering background informs my approach to shape, proportion, and composition. I’m drawn to acrylic for its bold color and crisp edges, and to geometry for the way a few carefully chosen shapes can capture someone’s personality and presence.

Inspiration and artistic perspective
I’m inspired by people and the details that reveal personality: a hairstyle, an earring, the tilt of a head, or the connection between two figures. I’m interested in individuality and the quiet strength people carry. My recent work also explores what it means to be seen, heard, and believed, particularly in relation to women’s experiences and voices.

Creative process
I begin with a subject or an idea, then plan the composition in large geometric shapes and develop a color palette. I use AI-assisted imagery during early reference development, then draw and paint the original entirely by hand. Mixing my own acrylic colors is a central part of the process. I work from a plan but adjust shapes, color relationships, and details as the painting develops, keeping metallic accents restrained.

Experiences that shaped the work
I returned to painting in my forties after years working in engineering and technology. That background shapes how I build a painting through proportion, structure, and deliberate choices. Developing Studio AH alongside a career and raising three daughters has made creative time especially meaningful to me. My work brings that structured thinking together with personality, emotion, and connection.

What would you like visitors to know
I hope people recognize something personal in my paintings: a familiar personality, a sense of confidence, or a connection to someone they love. I want the work to have presence in a room and invite a closer look at the details. At its heart, Studio AH is about individuality and the importance of feeling seen, heard, and valued.

Exhibitions and special activities
I have one piece, Held in Common, on display in Frisco currently in the Art in the Atrium 26 and it will be on display through February 1st.

I have 2 pieces, Little Profiles - Clara and Profile Study VI, on display in the Lake Grandbury Final day of the show is Oct. 31.
