Artist story and creative journey
I discovered fused glass over 15 years ago. First, I bought it, and after taking my first fused glass class, I realized I'd found my art form. What starts as separate pieces of glass is transformed inside the kiln at high temperatures. There's always a sense of excitement when opening the kiln. I think glass is magical!
Inspiration and artistic perspective
Inspiration may come from a piece of fabric, a painting or something in nature. A sheet of raw glass gives me clues and ideas about where it belongs — what other colors, patterns and shapes should be tied to it. Working with glass offers an endless sense of discovery. There is always something new to learn.
Creative process
My designs are inspired as I cut the glass into geometric or abstract shapes to create flow, movement and form. I try to imagine the end result. My current focus includes display art, functional (and food-safe) dishes and bowls, glass weaves and whimsical pieces. Because no two pieces are exactly the same, the possibilities are infinite.
Experiences that shaped my work
Each project is a fresh start as I strive for each piece to be unique and complete in itself.
What would you like visitors to know about your work
All pieces are hand cut, fired multiple times and cold-worked. I enjoy the focus and precision it takes to combine colors, textures and techniques to create kiln-formed glass art. I hope people will see something that makes them feel joy when they view my pieces.
Exhibitions and special activities
White Rock Lake Artists Studio Tour October 10-11
I recently started teaching Fused Glass classes at the Creative Arts Center of Dallas, and it's been a very rewarding experience. Also this year, I won blue ribbons in both fused glass categories at the State Fair of Texas.
