I paint landscapes to express my love of nature. Working outdoors to create studies and larger finished works helps me convey a feeling of time and place. Painting in the studio from Plein Air references keeps the work fresh and loose. Making art is my way of bringing beauty and meaning to the world..

Artist story and creative journey
My work is inspired by Texas regionalist painters and the Taos Society of Artists. I love painting outdoors, and use studies I paint "en plein air" as reference for my studio paintings I believe that creativity and art can change the world.

Inspiration and artistic perspective
People are often surprised when they discover I am an attorney and an artist. Being a self-taught artist has required me to make connections and find resources outside of the networks available to those with formal training.

Creative process
I paint alla prima, which informs the size of my work. I start each day with a time of quiet to center my thoughts and prepare for the creative opportunities ahead. I love painting in oils.

Experiences that shaped his work
I have been greatly influenced by the Dallas Nine and other Texas regionalists, and the Taos Society of Artists. I have been painting for over 20 years, and have been a full-time artist for the past 6 years.

Exhibitions and activities
I organize the Lake Highlands Art Tour which will be held on October 24 and 25, 2026.
I have participated in the Cedars Open Studios for many years and will do so again on November 21, 2026.
