Randal Weeks | Gray21 - Visual artist
Location during the art walk:
Stop 2
The Eastern in the Tower 22 District
4407 East Side Avenue
Our mission is simple: To make original art accessible to everyone while always leading with kindness. You do not always know why you love a particular piece, you just do. And that feeling-that connection-is what I hope everyone gets to experience.
We offer art work using multiple painting techniques including troweling, flowing, drip and what we call "trash art" in which the leftover paint from an art piece is turned into treasure.
Artist story and creative journey
For over 20 years, Randal has designed furniture, lighting and textiles for major retailers, interior designers and celebrities around the world. Today, he channels that same creative energy into his art. He is fearless with color, unapologetically bold with texture and endlessly curious about contrast and composition. You’ll find him flinging paint and testing theories always chasing the delicate tension between light and dark, calm and chaos. His goal has become simple: to make original art accessible to everyone. He believes art should inspire, comfort and spark joy every time you look at it. The collection includes various size canvases and multiple unique pieces of home decor
Inspiration and artistic perspective
We find inspiration in most things but focus on using bold colors and unique color combinations.
Creative process
The process varies on what is being created but it is mostly intuitive and experimenting. There are times that we get to the end and we start completely over with the piece becasue something just didn't feel right about the piece.
Experiences that shaped the work
The death of my mother had me reevaluate a few things and painitng became a great outlet for me
What do you want visitors to know
“You don’t always know why you love a particular piece-you just do. And that feeling and connection is what I hope everyone gets to experience.”
