Artist story and creative journey
I’m a mixed media artist specializing in oil paint and ceramics. I’ve been producing work professionally since 2013. In addition to my artistic practice, I teach high school painting, ceramics and art history.
Inspiration and artistic perspective
My work is rooted in a love of community and the joy I feel when surrounded by nature and in the fellowship of like minded people.
Creative process
I enjoy using burnished Venetian Plaster as part of my oil painting process. I lay down razor thin layers, as many as 20 per panel, which I scrape with metal tools and sand with 800 grit paper to create luminous backdrops. Oils and cold wax form the body of my paintings, creating an interplay of color and texture.
Experiences that shaped my work
Most recently, I rebuilt a kiln! Trogdor the Kilninator lives inside Studio C and allows me to fire my own ceramic work. I’m looking forward to offering kiln space and community Clay nights soon!
What would you like visitors to know
The process of creating- working out an idea or an image, learning along the way, and resolving the work- is a source of immense personal joy that embodied who I am as an artist and the reaction I hope my work inspires in those who encounter it.
Exhibitions and special activities
You can see my work at Beans and Brews off Garland Road, at Kettle Art in Deep Ellum, and at the Gallery at Art on Main. If you’re ever out in Rockwall, visit Huckabees Coffee to see my ceramics and enjoy a cup from the line of drinkware I produced for their newly expanded cafe!
