Artist story and creative journey
I am inspired by the beauty and diversity of nature and by human relationships. The power of close observation and expression of emotions and ideas drives my painting. Whether in landscapes, portraits or other subjects, I enjoy the creative process of exploring an idea and using my skills to best translate it with paint.

Inspiration and artistic perspective
Finding a balance between teaching art in a private school, raising a family, serving the community through PTA and art organization boards, and still producing my art was a challenge in my younger years. I had to learn time management skills and remember the importance of self care.

Creative process
On a typical studio day, I begin with a ritual of meditation and sweeping the floor. Then, I may experiment with materials, prepare canvases, sketch or work on a painting in progress. I do a few select commissions or invitational pieces and if that is on the agenda, that comes first. On a "plein air" day, I take a bag of art materials, my tripod and pochade box to a desired location to paint. I have 3 different bags, packed and ready to go at a moment's notice. If, I happen to be in a foreign country or a U.S.A. road trip, special packing is required. I love both oils and watercolor, so sometimes i have to choose!

Experiences that shaped her work
My earliest influence was the support of my creative and loving parents. They encouraged me as they did portrait painting, sewing, photography and crafting in our home. I had private art lessons starting at age nine and that was a big influence. In later years I learned about art history and master artists as I pursued my BFA at the University of North Texas. Claude Monet, Georgia O' Keeffe and John Singer Sargent are among favorite artists, along with many contemporary artists. Since 2014, I have been enamored with painting "en plein air". A week long workshop at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico got me hooked, Since then, I have been to four Plein Air Convention and Expo events, produced by Eric Rhoads and Streamline Publishing. I travel whenever possible to learn and challenge myself to grow as an artist.
